The commonly used tools for pruning include branch scissors for cutting branches, hand saws for sawing off large branches, sickles for flattening wounds and fish back files for sharpening sawteeth, as well as various girdling knives used for girdling branches. The technology of fruit tree pruning tools made in various countries is not exactly the same, and the durability is also different, but the function of use is the same. Motorized hand saws and long handle electric pruning shears are also used abroad. Most of these mechanized saws and shears are bulky, heavy to carry, need power, speed up when in use, and are not as light as manual saws, so they are still difficult to be popularized and applied in China.
Pruning the upper part of fruit trees requires climbing, so there are high stools and three or four leg ladders. In foreign countries, automatic lifting table is used for mechanized pruning. Pruners can stand on the table to prune fruit trees, which is a labor-saving method.
Large wounds caused by pruning fruit trees are easy to rot if infected by bacteria, so large wounds should be protected. Generally, white lead paint or half mixed oil of raw and cooked tung oil, or liquid wax and rosin clear oil mixture are used as protective agents, which can be applied with a small brush to protect the wound from pollution or pests.
